Mailbox Licenses Grow to 47 Million

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1999-- Software.com Inc. (Nasdaq:SWCM - news), a leader in carrier-scale software infrastructure solutions for service providers worldwide, Wednesday announced financial results for the second quarter and six months
ended June 30, 1999.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 1999, Software.com reported total revenue of $9.0 million, an increase of 48 percent over revenue of $6.1 million for the same quarter last year. The company reported a net loss of $2.9 million, or $0.10 on a basic and diluted per-share basis, versus a net loss of $1.2 million, or $0.05 per share for the same quarter last year.

For the six months ended June 30, 1999, Software.com reported total revenue of $17.1 million, an increase of 55 percent over revenue of $11.0 million for the same period last year. The company reported a net loss of $4.9 million, or $0.18 on a basic and diluted per-share basis, versus a net loss of $3.9 million, or $0.15 per share for the same period last year.

''This quarter the number of mailboxes licensed by Software.com increased by 9 million to 47 million,'' said Software.com Chief Executive Officer John L. MacFarlane. ''In addition to this quarter's strong growth in licensed mailboxes (or seats), we added five major customers with more than 100,000 licensed seats each; completed the acquisition of Mobility.Net Corporation and shipped the WebEdge(TM) mail and calendaring product; commercially launched our managed messaging application on the HP platform; and successfully demonstrated a thin server solution based on an IBM mail server platform with our InterMail® Kx product,'' stated MacFarlane.
