Don't you know the rules about sharing with everyone on the board?

I see 3 potential negative Y2K effects for the market:
1) Products fail on Jan. 1 and companies or sectors get hit as a result.

2) People expecting banks and brokerage houses to collapse take money out of the market and put cash under their mattress.

3) Investors, traders and institutions anticipating the first two sell ahead of either to capture the move.

I am not worried about #1 as I'm invested in techs, not in airlines or utilities <gg>.

I think there will be some effect from #2, but it will be gradual and probably not noticeable as it will happen over time. Most people are not doomsayers. They will have some cash on hand in case they can't get it out of banks, but will not take out their life savings.

#3 is the crapshoot. As I said, I'm a contrarian and I don't think it will happen. At least not in some meaningful way that would be more than a 15% market decline. But if the markets start to tank in Oct I reserve the right to buy some index puts.
