Re jbe's hypothetical example --

The zillions of articles about people 100 percent opposed to abortion does not mean that the views of these people are overrepresented or even represented.

More likely, the zillions of articles are used to hammer home the idea that those opposed to abortion are idiots, fanatics or some kind of morality police who can't wait to take control of your life. Hardly EVER are the arguments of these people aired in the mainstream press.

As for underrepresentation of those in favor of "it" -- abortion -- pretty hard to get any to come right out and argue for abortion -- most stop at the word "choice".

BTW, I don't follow this thread -- was just cruising by and noticed comments about the press. No intent to make a statement on abortion --just using the given example.

As for the media -- mainstream or otherwise -- the religious right could learn a trick or two from these self-serving sanctimonious bastards. Many have become bigger celebrities than the celebrities they cover.

If I see/read one more piece about the latest dead (and grossly negligent, willfully irresponsible) Kennedy, I may puke. I have no bias against the late JFK, Jr -- may he rest in peace -- but the press might try looking around for something meaningful to report.

Ratings whores, one and all.
