Doug - I've noticed national radio spots for ebay . . . don't know how often they run, but my limited research says the primary reasons for people not bidding focus around two key issues:

1) Lack of trust in the internet and in people they don't know, can't see and are therefore, wary of;

2) The idea of an auction in and of itself. I have talked to people that think auctions are simply a sellers tool to make people pay more for things than they are worth.

The issues surrounding not registering as a seller involve not knowing what the item they have to sell is worth or what they would accept for it - a tricky, slippery slope for many.

Those who have decided to make ebay the focus of their net business are, in fact, already in business and have a sense of what they're selling and what it is worth.

All in all, until ebay addresses the "confidence" issue for the uninitiated, I don't see how they can incrementally grow the number of sellers and bidders beyond the expectable growth of "converts" that join the internet business community - and surely, that pace is not going to be as rapid as it has in the last year or so.

Mr. K.
