Amazon supporters continually state that the foregoing of profits in the short term in order to expand business is a sound approach. Keep in mind though that Amazon has been adhering to this approach for four years.

Can anyone name a successful company that has taken this approach - that of foregoing profits for years in order to expand business? Perhaps I am naive - but I can't think of any. I'm not saying there aren't any - I just don't know of any - so if someone can give an example, I'd appreciate the education.
