So, jbe -- how about a "non-hypothetical" example?

FWIW, the term "ratings" was used generically. Print reporters may take a little longer to make the sausage but the ingredients are similar and, when it's done, it's still a sausage.

As for "professedly conservative" (or, for that matter, professedly liberal) media outlets -- I think that's great. They let you know straight away where they're coming from.

The major papers, mags and broadcast networks would have you believe they have zero bias. That's funny. Maybe even evil.

By the way, many experienced journalists reveal a bias when characterizing the Wall Street Journal as a conservative paper. The WSJ is often accorded archconservative status simply because it's primary subject is the tool of the "establishment" -- money.

The observer might also conclude that it's editorial page is conservative. It is --unabashedly so (not withstanding Al Hunt -- who is way overdue for a new haircut, by the way).

But -- I challenge you to find a pervasive conservative bias beyond the opinion pages and general subject matter. If you choose to disagree, please cite examples (don't do like Delbert and use the "Because-everybody-knows-it's-true" argument.

Hey Steve -- are you reading? I agree with your views. I don't think this is a fault of the consumer though. The "news" media, like modern pols spend too much time reading the polls and figuring out what will sell.
