Hi Bill,
have you ever seen a diamond cut? Most diamonds(of any decent size) are split and only experienced people in the industry undertake that work.Bet most people here would not recognize a diamond in the rough if they would have it in front of their nose.In regards to(real) blue diamonds, there are such things, but so rare that we may forget about them.If you want to see them, the Smithsonian might be the place to look for them. When I was introduced to the diamond trade, it was strongly suggested not to use that term for a colorless stone. For me to evaluate a stone I would have to have a comparison stone.Evaluating diamonds is a specialty occupation too.I had stones evaluated for customers for insurance purposes and found that these 'experts' often varied by 50%!When DeBeers comes out with their marked diamonds it will simplify evalueing diamonds as they most likely will certify the quality of that stone.IMO 1 carat or higher possibly.BTW, most stones
are sold by the CSO in bundles at showings and you have to have an invitation for that and you have to pay for the pile before they open the door for you to look at the diamonds. No pick and choose either. You decide on a pile and that is it.If you are not happy with the 'showing', there is no compulsion to buy and your money is refunded, but do not expect to be invited for another 'sight'.More to this diamond trade, then just finding a mine :-).ali
