Dan:

I wanted to add that the 50,000,000 MSMs for QCOM is cumulative since the inception of the product line. It is not just for this year. (I am actually merely guessing since if they had 11,000,000 in Q3 and the growth rates are increasing they could not have had more units sold - 39,000,000 - in Q1 and Q2 unless the market was in a very forgiving mood - which I doubt!)

BTW more trivia:
500 million global wireless subscribers expected in 2002
More wireless handsets will be sold in 2004 than PCs
(Red Herring)

However forecasts this far out are not worth much. It is likely that these numbers are conservative for wireless handsets.

BTW realize that if LSI succeeds then QCOM must fail (if slightly). Thus you have a built-in-QCOM-hedge by owning LSI.

The reason I suspected LSI had to win when I made up the list of Horsemen in early 1998 or thereabouts was because they announced an architecture in around early 1997 (way before most others) and they had all the pieces to build the puzzle. Lots of other companies have tried to build the CDMA jigsaw puzzle without realizing that they were missing a few pieces here and there. They were attempting a 5000 piece puzzle with fewer than 5000 pieces. Hence they failed. LSI had I hoped the 5000 pieces. LSI has not failed I think that is safe to say now! BTW note that he did not mention VLSI (now part of Philips). Hmmm. I wonder why? <g>

Yes I am also breathing a huge sigh of relief!
