a normal flashlight bulb is rated in MICRO candle power. A really strong one might be 250 microcandle power. (and micro candle power=100 times LESS powerful than a regular candle power) they are so blue that they come out white, where normal incandescent light is yellowish by comparison.

The great thing about those flashlights Art Bell advertises is that they do not have any filaments to burn out like a regular flashlight bulb does. the light comes from the electricity passing between two embedded metal prongs in this indestructible plastic bulb looking bump about the size of a shriveled soybean.

these flashlights are astounding!!!

i've been busy wiring in series a batch of small LEDs with my soldering iron to operate off of a solar powered 12v dc gel cell battery. these particular batteries can be found at your local battery exchange chain or through motorcycle type shops. they are about 4" high, 3" wide, and 3" thick. Gels will allow you to use them down to 80% of their capacity before they need recharging.

one of the experiments i have yet to conduct is to see if i can use these fabulous flashlight at full bore power, enhanced by a mylar 'shadowbox' type frame to recharge a small 12x12 solar panel because it gives back more candlepower than it uses up in battery charge.

i'll try to remember to keep you posted on this experiment. can you solder? it isn't a guy thing, just a hardware store thing. that is where you can buy a cheap soldering iron and the inexpensive coiled solder.

re: your phone: radio shack makes a non-transformer type plain jane desk phone that has a switch for rotary or touch-tone that you toggle.
i personally am trying to locate the old princess telephone for us, with the big round four pronged end. they do make an adapter from 4 prong to current modular plug cord jack. i'm sure you'll find that at radio shack also.

i had one that i'd been saving all these years, but the damn thing wouldn't ring when i tried it the other day! so I took it to salvation army as a donation and am on the hunt for another one.

those princess phones also are touch tone, and pre-date the early 70s electronics embedded chip problems to the best of my understanding. however, i am open to be corrected, especially if someone will do it before i buy another one.

the princess and the radio shack model mentioned above operate strictly from the electrical current coming through the phone line.
