UNBELIEVABLE!! I am deliriously happy. After 2 months of trying (well, maybe 3 hours altogether) to get that networking going properly, it took 5 minutes to fix. DSL downloaded SP5 in a jif, and I didn't mess with any protocols or bindings or adapters or adoptees or dimplemats or binder-clips or nuttin. The thing just worked. I wonder if I should have checked out MS support earlier? peter P.S. I really hope to get some feedback on that flat panel, recycled notebook screen idea.
