LC, IMHO: Cutting costs require you to cut high-priced employees who are no more efficient than lower-priced employees. The odds are fairly good that there are a great many older employees who fit this bill. I applaud them for cutting costs. I hope they weren't stupid enough to practice agism -- which I understand to be the systematic firing of older employees in favor of younger, less expensive workers. In the end, you settle. The lawyers make a bunch of money. The company and its shareholders lose a bunch of money. The people alleging this form of discrimination get a retirement nest egg to which they otherwise would not have been entitled. I do not know what the Street is thinking about this suit. I hate the way the EEOC brings forth this type of garbage. It is symptomatic of a White House that is anti-business and pro-trial lawyer. Would they have been happier if Z went out of business? --Duker
