JAPAN'S JUN PRELIM COPPER, ALUMINUM, GOLD IMPORTS UP ON YEAR
Tokyo--Jul 22--Japan's customs-cleared imports of non-monetary gold jumped
108.4% on year in June to a preliminary 9.5 tonnes, the Ministry of Finance
announced today. Imports of copper and its alloys rose by 23.2% on year in June
to a preliminary 26,673 tonnes, while imports of aluminum and its alloys rose
11.3% to 237,346 tonnes, the ministry said. (Story .2207)
CANADA MAY GOLD TOTAL OUTPUT -3.13% ON YEAR; JAN-MAY -0.69%
Toronto--Jul 21--Canada's total gold production fell 3.13% in May from the
same month in 1998 to 13.552 million ounces, Natural Resources Canada said
today. For the Jan-May period, total gold production was down 0.69% to 66.389
million ounces. However, primary silver production was up 12.44%, with May
production at 118,777 kilograms. (Story .2176)
JAPAN MITSUBISHI MATERIALS PROMOTES PRECIOUS METAL CLAY SALES
Tokyo--Jul 22--Japan's Mitsubishi Materials Corp. announced today it has
signed an exclusive marketing contract with Calif-based ceramic studio operator
Petroglyph Inc. to promote sales of precious metal clay. Mitsubishi invented the
precious metal clay in 1991 and has promoted it in Japan, while it has started
sales in the US since 1996, it said, adding that an annual 4 billion yen of
sales volume is expected for the clay in the US in 2004. (Story .10717)
