John, Part of it also has to do with the fact that the eps the cos report is mostly fake "operating earnings" or "earnings from continuing operations." They usually hide the real eps in the fine print for investor reports, but bring it out loud and clear for the IRS. <g> I believe that real eps for all US corps were down last year while we were having a great economy, though I don't have the numbers handy. I do know they were much lower than the numbers reported to suckers. And since investors buy fake and sell real, it all makes sense. <g>
