Actually, you can download for free many CD-quality songs, mostly from new artists, on the MP3 web site and others and often get all songs on the CD that is also for sale. I have ADSL, so it makes the download of 4MB song files feasible. If you go to sites selling CDs by established artists, you are correct. You get a sample of the song. New artists find the free downloading of their work a means of marketing, I guess.

You can either stream the download or just get the file. My ADSL is rated 1.6Mbps.
