Jim,
Sun as I argued earlier must rely on its server technolog not the NC.
This high end core technology will be under attack with in 1.5 years.
Look for Sun to shift into the INTEL camp to avoid slow death.
====================================================================

Under attack from whom?? Sun has already been successfully
competing in a highly competitive corporate market. I can't imagine
any company giving them more competition than IBM, DEC, HP, & SGI.

If by mentioning the INTEL camp you mean competition from MSFT,
don't make me laugh. MSFT is strictly the bush leagues. Check out
Nicolas Petreley's article in "Infoworld Electric" if you want to
hear about MSFT's Wolfpack cluster project, it's all bark & no bite.

MSFT doesn't know the first thing about departmental & enterprise
computing. They have no sales & support organization. They are
so pathetically behind, that they are enlisting DEC & HP to help
them support NT.

I remember the server wars back in the 80's. Novell was king of the
hill in intranet file & print servers & MSFT had just "discovered"
the importance of hooking PC's up to LANs. MSFT predicted that,
though they were behind Novell at the time, they would catch up in
a few years & replace Netware on everyone's PC.

Well, that was nearly 10 years ago and they STILL haven't replaced
Novell as the pre-eminant vendor of intranet servers. Novell still
has a 50-60 million end-user base.

If they can't win vs. a company in their league, how in the world
are they going to handle a major league team like SUNW?

cheers,

cherylw
