Jim, one thing for sure is that the US will not change its way to calculate its import and export figures, just as true that China will not change its way to calculate their figures either. After all, even if by China's calculation, China still has a big surplus, which is a big plus for the Chinese economy.

And China wants to spend a lot of it to buy some US technology, but the US says now all those technologies have potential military use. Instead, the US only wants to sell China agricultural products. But China is not a banana republic. It can be self-sufficient in terms of food by and large. So the real problem is that the buyer cannot get what he wants to buy, while the seller only wants to sell low value products. I think the current figure for the percent of technology import from the US to CHina is only around 18%.
