Greenspan's role is to maintain confidence in the value of our money. I think that requires consideration of a wide variety of factors, and he's done well on that. Sure, it's annoying that he can bring the markets down 10% with a casual one-liner, but he's hinted at a lot more rate changes than he's actually made. From a solid economy point of view, stable interest rates are more important than stable stock prices.

I see the traditional late summer to October tech panic is upon us. As usual, it will be long forgotten in February.
