I agree that Seattle rivals silicon valley in web companies, although most of those are funded from down here. There is a lot of movement of workers on the entire west coast anyway and I don't think there is much difference in terms of demographics between Seattle and the bay area. Its too expensive here and that is impeding growth, no question.

Austin otoh is not the same quality in terms of workers and companies. It is mostly only a manufacturing arm for established firms like Applied Materials and Intel. UT is a good school but its no Stanford or Cal, and the racism in Texas makes it hard to recruit some of the foreign nationals. Texas is cheap but thats about it, manufacturing only I predict.
