AS,

I really expected a good rally into earning this month. It has not materialized. I think part of it is that there was a pretty good run for the three week before earnings. For what ever reason, even the stocks that beat earnings and whisper numbers have been selling off. So what happens after earnings? Usually everyone starts predicting the next quarter and the market coasts a bit. But next quarter is the start into the y2k fears. If y2k will be as big a disaster as some are saying is not revelent. The fear will be there and the market will tank. MSFT warned that their next two quarters would suffer due to pc sales slow downs and they know what they are talking about. The company I work for is one of Dell's biggest clients and one of MSFT's also. In my little corner of the world - Latin America - we have replaced almost all of our pc's in the last 1 1/2 years somewhere around 2000. Our purchases will go down to a trickle for the next quarter and we be almost none in the last. They will not pick up till the end of 1st qtr of next year. There will also be no purchases from MSFT during this time. There are many more companies that are doing the same.

I think the bottom line is that y2k will have a big effect on the market. The only question is when will it start.
