It depends on the relationship between what you consider Off Topic dialog and the amount of coverage CNBC gives a topic. Events like the JFK tragedy are on topic on this thread if the CNBC personalities give it an ample amount of attention. As a parallel, if Joe Kernan decided to spend four hours tomorrow talking about Cisco's ADSL strategy, I would expect discussion here about DMT, G.lite or 2B1Q encoding techniques. The fact that CNBC gives four hours (and more) to the Kennedy tragedy permits posters here to pontificate on the matter to their heart's delight.

After all, there's only so much that can be said about Maria's clothes. :-)
