Which is exactly what I think we'll see on August 2nd. If I were Via or Acer I would choose to partner with 3dfx before Trident. I think either 3dfx does not want to do core logic, or already has a partner. So...which core logic maker doesn't have a grahpics partner? My guess is that 3dfx may be working on something with AMD directly and that is why STB is no longer in the motherboard market. The are going to be a chip supplier instead and have conceded the motherboard market so as to not upset their customers.
