New horizontal wells drill their way into aging oil fields of Kern

The horizontal well continues to play a role in Kern County's aging oil fields. Berry Petroleum Co. filed notices to drill three new horizontal wells in the Midway-Sunset field. Aera Energy LLC filed for a new horizontal well in the Cymric field and Alanmar Energy for a new horizontal well in the Lost Hills field.
Berry Petroleum's Formax East No. 400H is south of the 25 Hill area in Taft. Surface drill site is on Sec. 36, 32S-23E, located from the southeast corner of the section 756 feet north and 1,379 feet west. Bottomhole coordinates measured from the surface location are 1,596 feet north and 613 feet east, placing the bottom of the well approximately 1,700 feet northeast from the surface location. True vertical depth is 1,404 feet with measured depth 2,926 feet.
Berry Petroleum's B. B. & 0. No. 405H is on Sec. 28, 12N-24W, north of Maricopa in the Lakeview Gusher area. Surface coordinates measured from the southeast corner of the section are 98 feet north and 2,157 feet west. Bottomhole coordinates measured from the surface location are 1,725 feet north and 312 feet east, placing the bottom of the well approximately 2,100 feet northeast from the surface location. True vertical depth is 1,268 feet with measured depth 1,367 feet.
Berry Petroleum's B. B. & O. No. 406H is on Sec. 28, 12N-24W, north of Maricopa in the Lakeview Gusher area. Surface coordinates measured from the southeast corner of the section are 97 feet north and 2,129 feet west. Bottomhole coordinates measured from the surface location are 1,510 feet north and 1,557 feet east, placing the bottom of the well approximately 2,100 feet northeast from the surface location. True vertical depth is 1,287 feet with measured depth 1,354 feet.
Aera Energy LLC's Anderson-Fitzgerald No. 7702BH is on Sec. 26, 29S-21E, in the Cymric field northwest of McKittrick. Surface coordinates measured from the southeast corner of the section are 1,367 feet north and 692 feet west.
Bottomhole coordinates measured from the surface location are 1,312 feet north and 1,843 feet west, placing the bottom of the well approximately 2,200 feet northwest from the surface location. True vertical depth is 937 feet with measured depth 2,978 feet.
Alanmar Energy's Enron-United No. 3-11 is on Sec. 11, 26S-20E, in the northwest portion of the Lost Hills field.
Surface coordinates measured from the southeast corner of the section are 1,520 feet south and 1,110 feet west. Bottomhole coordinates measured from the surface location are 1,300 feet south and 640 feet west, placing the bottom of the well approximately 1,500 feet southwest from the surface location. True vertical depth is 1,700 feet with measured depth 2,700 feet.
In other activity, Chevron USA Inc. filed notices to drill two development wells in the Kern River field. The locations are for Kern County Land Co. Lease 39 No. 5570-9 on Sec. 9, 29S-28E, located from the northeast corner of the section 2,067 feet south and 1,359 feet west; and Kern County Land Co. Lease 39 No. 6570-9 on Sec. 9, 29S-28E, located from the northeast corner of the section 2,089 feet south and 997 feet west.
Chevron also filed a notice to drill a waterflood injection well in the Lost Hills field. The location is for No. 8-12W on Sec. 32, 26S-21E, located from the southeast corner of the section 215 feet north and 1,785 feet west. The drill site is three miles south of the deep Bellevue Resources Inc. discovery well.
