I have looked into several of the companies that are attacking the MDU market. Most noticible is RCN (company that Superwire beat out for access to 400,000 potential subs). The biggest difference between Superwire and other DSL/cable modem deployments is cost. Supwerwire, using Entrata technology, can take a building broadband much cheaper than the competition. This will allow for pricing flexibility and give a faster payback on capital.

The second difference between Superwire and the competition is their portal plans. They will provide compelling content and a unique broadband experience unlike what is currently available and what I have seen in both demo's and beta from companies such as C-net, Exxcite and Lycos. The portal will be tailored to the community surrounding the MDU and offer everything from news and entertainment to e-commerce opportunities and local advertising. Add this together with dual line capability on the telephone service and a video deployment sometime next year and you have quite a compelling story.

These are the right guys entering the right market segment at the right time.
