won't he/they be a welcome sight?

Considering the old man has been begging us to move out that way for years, I know he doesn't have much of a problem with it. (empty nest syndrome, y'know) In fact, we've already discussed the matter, thank you.

Besides, who do you think told him to put in a stash of food and supplies in the first place?? He thought that Y2K was complete BS until I convinced him. And that what was before I ever had the displeasure to come across either yourself or your sanctimonious sidekick, Ken.

And do you know how I convinced him?? I told him that NO ONE knows what is going to happen. In fact, the odds are that nothing significant occur at all. However, there was a potential for disruption due to either technological problems, or man-made riots, and it wouldn't hurt to have a stash of supplies put in (more than just my mother's normal huge quantity of canned goods).

He wouldn't respond to the belief that there could be major disruptions, but he did repond to "just being prepared". My parents were much more responsive to such an approach as that, than your ranting, know it all, the world is doomed sort of BS.

So people like yourselves do more to turn off people from preparing for Y2K with your irrational BS, than those of us who advise preparation "for just in case", without trying to panic them. I'm sure that many people you discussed this matter with also think you're out of your mind, and thus, haven't bother to prepare.

Because they now associate common-sense preparedness with your posturing irrationality and fearmongering, they deliberately seek not replicate your behavior. They don't want to be like you, afraid of your own shadow and forecasting the end of civilization. And who can blame them?

FACE IT bearcub/Ken... you guys are trying to frighten the crap out of everyone with your unsubstantiated predictions. And I had to ask myself why the two of you would want to do something like that.

Then it became clear. You're both desparately afraid. However, you need others to panic in order to substantiate and justify the level of personal cowardice and inadequacy you both feel. You can't imagine the possibility of law and order being maintained by rational people, because rationality does not exist in your minds, only fear and inadequacy.

And you'll never admit your inner fears and doubts to others. You'll just continue to puff up your chests and to haranque anyone who hasn't opted to replicate your level of preparedness. You'll call them stupid, blind, naieve, anything that will MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER about your OWN FEAR.

You envy those who have chosen not to disrupt their lives to the extent that you have, over something that NO ONE, repeat, NO ONE can predict with any clarity.

I pity all each of you.
