N.H. authorities flush 4 billions gallons of water down the toilet so the tidy bowl man can float his boat:

New Hampshire able to float Gore's boat

By Bill Sammon and Laura R. Vanderkam
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

early 4 billion gallons of water were unleashed from a massive dam Thursday to raise the level of the Connecticut River in Cornish, N.H., so that Vice President Al Gore's canoe would not get stuck during an environmental photo opportunity.
The action irritated John Kassel, director of the Vermont Department of Natural Resources, who accompanied Mr. Gore on the canoe trip.
"They won't release the water for the fish when we ask them to, but somehow they find themselves able to release it for a politician," Mr. Kassel groused as he clambered up the riverbank after the four-mile canoe trip. "The only reason they did this was to make sure the vice president's canoe didn't get stuck."

A historical note. Authorities in Minneapolis did a similar thing when Lyndon Johnson visited the Twin Cities during his presidency. It was dry that summer and Minnehaha falls were dry. So authorites opened a dam upstream so Lyndon could have a nice photo-op in front of the madly rushing falls.
