Hi Rudy,..Re:.and in certain large customers like banks and insurance companies where a "locked down" desktop is actually preferable

When I inquired about thin client applications, the answer was that it was ideal for the insurance industry where large numbers of desktops needed to access common data but for corporate use in medium sized companies, it wouldn't be applicable, especially in an engineering environment.

I remember in the old days when the manufacturing floor was on ASK or MANMAN and it was similar to thin client as that was the only thing the terminals could access. Needless to say it was useless because it couldn't accommodate unscheduled changes or emergencies or anything else where some scrambling had to be done. Not only that, the people using it were highly frustrated, It's also similar to the dumb VT terminals where people were stuck just on the software and applications allowed. Furthermore, a system admin can alter structure at any time and no one can do anything about it.

I can't see small businesses using it as they especially need flexibility and no waiting times. So I'm not clear where the broader applications, therefore markets, would be other than insurance or banking. I think Dell already uses some form of thin client for downloading custom pages for customers but this would fall into the category of convenience rather than function for operations?

Thanks for your views.
