It is unfortunate to see so many of the good companies reporting great earnings exceeding street expectations only to get slammed because of a hostile federal reserve board.

Nonsense! The Fed is not hostile. Stocks drop because shareholders sell. Some of the selling is done by institutions that use computers programs to determine their trading strategy. Another part of the selling is due to momentum players who are simply lemmings.

Maybe a lot of people decided to take profits. Or maybe some people were spooked by the possibility of an irresponsible tax cut that might jeopardize the country's ability to pay down the national debt or even result in the elimination of the surplus. Or maybe some people decided to sell because of fear of eventual Y2K dislocations. And then again, some people may have decided to sell because it's July.
