Ken, in answer to your question about my new Coleman table lamp (the $9.99 version):

>>Will you please post your results with it, e.g., how soft is the lite, adequate for close, detailed and prolonged reading, for adequately liting a medium-sized room. ....Is yours the new u-tube?

...Also, check to see if you get their advertised 24 hours battery life in continuous mod <<

I had to wait until dark to answer this question. This is definitely a "mood" lamp....in other words, sufficient for navigating about a room but I wouldn't want to chop onions more than 1 foot from it. It's not a reading lamp.

The specs don't make any claims about battery life, and the bulb is tiny, not u-shaped. It's krypton...that's all I know :)

Actually, its glow is extremely pleasant. The mantle is white plastic and it doesn't have the black screen around it that Cheryl described in a larger lamp. I'm going to re-read Cheryl's post about the larger lamp (not the Coleman), though, as this one just doesn't have enough oomph for some purposes.
