HA. Tell me about it. I attended one of the paired CHI conferences in Boston last year (Functional Genomics & Genetic Variation), spending something near $2000 for reg, hotel & air. The company certainly didn't mind spending that money once, but I think it's barely worth it for frequently-repeated meetings with too much subject overlap. I decided to cut back my attending CHI conferences for when they're in the Bay Area. Or, if I can get a speaker's bonus for a CHI meeting (speakers get free reg + another meeting's free reg; academician speakers also get hotel or airfare free [I think]).

(who'd rather attend GSAC-XI in Miami, but
the bozos cross-scheduled it on a holiday...)
