50 x 50 means the bid size and ask size (x 100) which means:
5000 shares (50 lots of 100 shares)to buy at the bid and 5000 shares (50 lots of 100 shares) to sell at the ask.

Ideally, a MM must sell you 5000 shares at the ask (or buy them at the bid) if they are listed at that price. The rules for lot sizes on the OTC are as follows:

under .50 mandatory 5000 shares (or 50) x 5000 (or 50) = 50 x 50
.50 to .99 mandatory 2500 shares (or 25) x 2500 (or 25) = 25 x 25
1.00 + mandatory 500 shares (or 5 ) x 500 (or 5 ) = 5 x 5

The sizes do move independently which means:

if the stock price is bid = .45 and ask = .55 the bid and ask sizes would be 50 x 25.

NASDAQ and NYSE stocks have the same lot sizes be reflect actual buy and sell order sizes which means:

if the best BID (highest price someone is willing to pay for) is someone looking to buy 1300 shares of DELL at 41 1/4, and the best ASK (lowest price someone is willing to sell for) is someone trying to sell 900 share of DELL at 41 7/16 the price would look like this:

41 1/4 (13) x 41 7/16 (9)

With NASDAQ and NYSE stocks, it is better to have larger bid sizes (people looking to buy) than ask sizes (people looking to sell).
