Cool!

RE: During a Q&A session, Frick -- who is vice president of
consumer peripherals -- asked what he (MC) meant by "cool."

"When we sit down with you to show you a product, what are you going to be looking for that's cool?" she asked.

"What's cool to me? Ease of use -- when I can sit right down and use it right away," Capellas responded. "Cool is when I can do something I didn't know I could do before."

Frick said his answer "blew me away."

This statement is the antithesis of EP. It sounds more like MD to me. Interesting that CPQ's new CEO has initials that are vastly similar to Michael Dell's. I think Rosen had incredible insight when he saw that CPQ needed the vision of someone comfortable with today's internet technology, and the confidence to focus on simplicity to achieve greatness. EP clearly did not. He was obsessed with beating IBM and Dell in their business models. He did not set out to define his own new vision.

Capellas appears to be more compatible with today's successful CEO's (Dell, Gates, Yahoo founders)in developing a product to fit the consumer. EP was living in the 1960's world of mainframe computers and totally out of touch with what the market wants today.
