Marc: I understand your AMAT decision. AMAT did not trade right this week in comparison with prior trading periods where the fundamentals have been strong. You have (1) stable to rising DRAM prices; (2) strong PC growth along with other drivers; and (3) economic growth in the world, especially SEA. The fundamental stars are all aligned. You could not ask for anything better except for a better bookings number.

The end of SEMICON West coupled with a BTB yawner and the Green Man caused this stock to correct more than normal. I was ready to reconsider my positional trades but was quite pleased with the relative strength of AMAT all day Friday. Friday could have marked a short term bottom for the stock. If history is any guide, AMAT should move higher towards earnings after the word is out that AMAT has -- hopefully -- nailed the quarter and then some. This would bode well for the entire sector. The one fly in the ointment is the Green Man and his affect on the overall market with this heightened inflation watch. Without some stability in the overall market at least, AMAT or any other semi equip will go nowhere.
