The truth, as usual in these questions, would lie somewhere in between.

Again, I invite you to view the cold war from the perspective of those who saw it as two large predators, inheritors of the colonial mantle, fighting over the right to devour them.

Personally, I see us as the good guys in the cold war. But I think we did a lot of things unworthy of a good guy, and that many of those things hurt our cause more than they helped it. When you fight for a principle, it is unwise to ignore that principle.
