That is good enough, the question was "which is closer to the truth?", and if you see us as the good guys, even if we behaved unworthily at times, that is sufficient. I will say, though, that the doctrines of neo- colonialism and neutralism were pretty much developed as self- serving rationales for nationalist dictatorships, the curtailment of civil liberties, and/or playing off the super- powers for foreign aid by native elites. It was not just our allies who sucked. The sudden unburdening of the imperial powers left a vacuum filled largely by kleptocrats and lunatics throughout the Third World...
