You may be right about that, but then there were a number of things on our plate in the immediate aftermath of the war, and there was an unseemly rush on the part of progressive governments in countries like Britain to just get out. Personally, I think the colonial powers should have stayed at least 20 years longer, in most cases, with step by step devolution, including in the Phillipines....
