HEADLINE: Imagine Media Announces Launch of NGamer Magazine; Imagine Rounds Out Single Platform Games Magazine Titles With Addition of Unofficial Nintendo Publication
DATELINE: BRISBANE, Calif.
BODY: July 22, 1999--Imagine Media announced the launch of NGamer(TM), rounding out the company's portfolio of single platform games magazines.
NGamer will be the unofficial and unbiased Nintendo authority, covering all aspects of Nintendo gaming, including the Nintendo 64, Color Game Boy and the next generation Dolphin system. The magazine will provide unique insight on all aspects of Nintendo culture, including the Pokemon phenomenon.
"NGamer will offer the highest editorial quality and will fill the needs of more mature Nintendo gamers frustrated with their current games magazine choices. The rebellious attitude, intelligent insight, and distinctive style of Imagine's other console magazines will continue in NGamer. Advertisers have already given us a resoundingly positive response to its launch," stated Doug Faust, Publisher of NGamer.
Vince Matthews, a games industry veteran, will head up the launch of NGamer as Editor-in-Chief. Matthews was with Imagine in its early days and helped launch Next Generation in 1994. He has authored numerous books for Prima Publishing including an N64 buyers guide, two PlayStation compilation books and the Unofficial Quake 64 Guide. Most recently Matthews worked as the Senior Product Manager for Interactive Magic where he handled packaging and marketing for Knights and Merchants, Robo Rumble, Spearhead, Wall Street Tycoon, Shadow Company and Mortyr.
The NGamer launch follows that of the Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine, which premieres next month. Imagine also publishes the best-selling unofficial PlayStation magazine in the world, PSM. NGamer further extends Imagine's in-depth games coverage through the single platform format.
NGamer will be published bi-monthly and will hit the newsstands on November 9, 1999. Major distribution retail outlets include CompUSA, Babbages Etc., Electronics Boutique, Walmart, Kmart, Best Buy, Albertson's, Safeway and Rite Aid.
