There are homes in this area operating off solar power, propane appliances, and wood heat. You can't run a home entirely off solar in the Pacific Northwest, let alone in New England or most of the country. Maybe in Arizona. But those who have solar power still have dark houses and limited electrical use. Generally no TVs (which is a positive IMO), but also limited access to computers (my friend who runs his house of solar can only use his computer about 2 hours a day), etc. And, of course, I'm sure that if we grabbed all that solar power and converted it into electricity we would find some other environmental effect we hadn't expected. We always do.
