Peter,
Interesting topic. I agree that there is nothing wrong in concept with shorting a stock even a biotech. Many short players are very savy and in many cases do better research than their long counterparts. I always like to hear the short case. It is important to keep an open mind and consider the other side.

What pisses me off however are professional short players who spread false and misleading rumors and inuendo in an attempt to drive the price of a stock down. They are only one step up from the gutter from those hedge funds who buy floorless converts and then short the stock to lock in a profit ultimately severly damaging the financial viability of the company who issued the death spiral preferred. At least the latter isn't illegal although it is unethical IMO and should be illegal.

One stock that has been vicously attacked by short players is CLTR. For the most part the arguments are complete BS and there have been many rumors that one by one will be proven false. In the case of CLTR where is the supposed info coming from. Why was CLTR targeted? Who really killed JFK?
