"But in late May, Liu met in Hong Kong with the man who may provide a considerable
thorn in the side, not just for Legend, but for all PC sellers in
China--Michael Dell. Dell met with customers in
Hong Kong and also visited the company's 135,000-square-foot factory in Xiamen,
Fujian province, which opened in November 1998 and serves China and Hong Kong."

Interesting points in the article. MD, in agressive pursuit of a slice of Chinese computer market, meets with Legend's chief and gets tour of Legend factory. Legend is partly owned by Chinese government. First to admit not knowledgable about internals of government owned businesses but don't see chinese government endorsing and being thrilled about losing market share/profits for one of it's own enterprises. Saturday musing: Is/was this just typical Asian hospitality given a potential competitor? Not trying to rev up silly speculation but can Dell business model entertain an alliance with communist owned (in part) business. Maybe there is a precedence for this. Don't know.
