To all: I have found a statement that sums the valuation problem:
<In truth, it is very difficult to predict how the future will pan out>

The valuations put on net stocks in general, and AMZN in particular, are based on PURE speculation -- that the future will permit 'limitless' growth and little if any serious competition -- and that this will continue for a long, long, long time -- and that it makes sense to value these stocks AS IF THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED so that it can be priced into the stock price today. The 'believers' say, hey, you can't prove that this WON'T happen, so the fundamentals are 'sound'. The first time I saw Blodgett spout about AMZN's valuation I laughed so hard it hurt. It caught me off-guard that anybody would be so simple-minded as to think that events five years away in this market had any place in an intelligent discussion of the value of net stocks today. Unfortunately, AMZN's valuation is a joke. It is, to my mind, the biggest joke -- right up there with the expression 'blue chip net stocks' which is always good for a laugh.
