Amazon will be selling diamonds within the next year or so. Is that a commodity?

Precious metals are commodities. Precious stones would seem to be also. Except where value is added, something which can be produced by other companies is a commodity. A commodity doesn't imply worthlessness. It simply implies a lot of competition. Is the jewelry business a competitive one? I think it probably is. It is around my metro area, anyway.

Anyway, I certainly wouldn't purchase a diamond from Amazon. If there is one thing that I would want to see with my own eyes before purchasing, it would be a diamond. But that's just me.
