Ike-Great post! I hope you keep posting your thoughts as I know that many of us who are still learning and paying our dues sure do appreciate learning from the wise veteran.

These days I am on the road 2-5 days (all mon.- fri.)So I position trade road days and daytrade on home days(at least a few hours)

I always check Idea thread to get a quick fix on the market trend and trade long or short based on the bias. It has worked well this past few months and I just wanted to say thanks and let you know dinner is on me next time you visit Calif. Take care my old cyber friend and keep up the great work!

PS-Remember a phone call re VRTS 3 years ago in Paris?-Wish I would have loaded the boat and sat on it. That one has doubled many times since than!-People(gg) at that company still are extremely bullish on it over the next few years. It seemed overvalued than at a fraction of todays value. You are so right about needing a new way to evaluate these ..definitley not railroads or utility companies.
I have a friend who bought a couple thousand shares of VRTS 4-5 years ago for 12k....he played it well and now those shares have split many times and are worth over 2.4M. His strategy is to buy a bunch on margin every time the market tanks and sell when we see double or triple tops on NAZ or DOW.-He thinks I'm nuts for daytrading or short term trading but I got to do what I got to do.

PSS-My company is doing well with steady growth. We are anticipating our first 100k month this month with about 15-20% overhead (before taxes)Looks like I may have enough extra $$ to get back in the game for round 2.
My biggest lesson learned the hard way is-Don't have more than a few % of your portfolio in naked options without protection. OCT 97 cost me over 200k and #2 is don't daytrade at SCHWAB. On that fateful day in Oct of 97 their inability to fill my orders cost me large. -I know you always preach protection but some of us are a little slower than others<gg>
