"What's cool to me? Ease of use -- when I can sit right down and use it right away," Capellas responded. "Cool
is when I can do something I didn't know I could do before."

Frick said his answer "blew me away."

This statement is the antithesis of EP. It sounds more like MD to me.

Sounds more like Steve Jobs to me. Apple is already making computers that you can sit down and use right away (it has been demonstrated that a ten year old can get an iMac out of the box and be on the internet in 10 minutes). They also do things that you didn't know you could do before (i.e., the new AirPort on the iBook). Windows-based machines have never innovated or had ease-of-use in a similar way. If MC can pull it off, we may be okay.

However, my concern is that these elements have always been Apple strongpoints, and not Compaq's. My sense when trying to turn around a company is to streamline and emphasize your strengths (which is exactly what Jobs did in getting rid of the peripheral businesses and working toward developing the iMac). I'm not sure that this statement by MC points to that kind of focus.

Personally, I've been a long-term investor in CPQ (I've been in since '94). I'm not sure what to do at this point.
