I am not sure all the exuberance is irrational. I still feel any comparison to Iridium is without merit and at best very speculative. Iridium was dead on arrival for a variety of reasons not the least of which is their decision to bypass the sp's that already had existing cell customers. I have been pouring over Iridium's web site and out of 50+ countries looked at, 28 are yet to have an identified sp and none, other than Sprint in the US, has cell customers. Most of the providers are either Iridium subsidiaries or local phone equipment suppliers. In other words, none have an established subscriber base. Re: pricing Infosat in Canada is offering the svc as of 7/15 under the "new" pricing plan at 2779 (1,845 US) per phone, 2.59 per min No Am calls (1.72 US), and 4.43 international (2.94 US). Those prices are higher than the whisper #'s we have been hearing about. I think we will be pleasantly surprised and rewarded.
