John, The Depression started in 1929 and Roosevelt took office in 1933, so 5 years is too long. But it was fairly long in the tooth. The stealing of military secrets by the Chinese started way back and neither Republicans nor Democrats did much about it. I agree that Clinton is the President China ever had, just as Reagan was the best President Japan ever had. But, as Jesse the Body said on tv this morning, everyone is getting sick of both of those parties. Time to referee a rasslin' match. <g>
Gateway is doomed, but the suckers have a great willingness to believe. However, they have a lot working against them: 1. Poor quality computers, rated second worst in reliability. 2. Overpriced vs. much better computers. 3. A tendency to write off all of their previous lies about eps in one fell swoop (actually, bulls consider this a positive as they get 8 fake "good" numbers for every one real "bad" number <g>). 4. I don't think the liability of the "You're StupidWare" program is fully expensed and this will be a disaster in the future. 5. Every consumer who needs a PC has two, and Gateway is nowhere in corporate sales.
The question is not what the future holds for this schlocky co., but when they have to 'fess up? They have enough cash to burn for awhile and some extremely inventive accountants, so I am not buying puts yet. I look for late Jan as a good starting point, when the Xmas lies start to rebound on the boxmakers. Again! |
