Off Topic? Not really.

Hello everyone. Last Friday, I got my head handed to me with Sunrise Technologies(SNRS). On Thursday SNRS was presenting their long awaited product to an FDA Advisory committee. SNRS exceeded or met all FDA criteria going in to this Ophthalmic Device Panel(ODP) meeting. The ODP consisted of 7 civilian appointed members who were not FDA employees. They rejected the SNRS application for Pre-market approval and told them to go back and gather another 6 months of data. Previously, the FDA invited SNRS to this July panel because the requirement of 18 months of patient data was fulfilled. The ODP took it upon themselves to change the FDA criteria at the meeting and requested 24 month data. The stock price plummeted 75% as a result of this decision.

Now, why I am writing this on the ADVR board? Well.....It finally hit me on how much power these government regulatory agencies have. Who knows what motives were behind this decision? Was it jealousy? (A few SNRS investigators had large stock positions) Was it political? (One of the leading Panel members is connected to a large opthalmological institution with competing Vision Care contracts) Was it financial? (The excimer laser market (VISX/BEAM) would lose a significant share of the Hyperopic market)

Now how does this relate to ADVR? Well......SNRS chose to keep their shareholders informed of their progress over the last 2-3 years and the stock priced appreciated as SNRS came closer to their goal. The price went from .75($30 milion market cap) in early 1997 to $19.50($800 million market cap) last week prior to the ODP meeting. Maybe SNRS pissed these ODP regulators off by making all these positive statements over the past few years? Little to cocky on their part?

Now I can understand somewhat on why Dr. Hirschman and ADVR are in such fear on making any announcements before they submit and actually receive an IND. Once they do the market forces will have no choice but to embrace the company and price it at what it's worth or potential worth.

Lastly, for all of you that had personal experience with the results of RETICULOSE..........you know it works but have to wait until the FDA or some other body gives it's blessing. I personally know SNRS's LTK procedure works because some of my patients were in the FDA study and I followed them on my own. But, unfortunately, I and all the SNRS investors are at the mercy of our FDA.

Go ADVR! Go SNRS!
