Gersh, it's difficult for me to make a political statement about Government Spending.

I'm just not that well versed with regard to the topic.

I shall say this....the very idea that they took Social Security out of my paycheck for many years bothers me somewhat. I do wish that they would only give me that money back. I do not want interest, I do not want SS payments once I hit retirement age.

Had I just been allowed to keep that money and allowed for my own retirement I would be better prepared for the future than I would be if I relied on the Government for a SS check each month.

That is to say, when I am 65 Social Security might be the equivalent of vaporware. At least if I was allowed to keep the money and all I did was put it into a Mutual Fund for the last 30 years I would be in fine shape.

<I further believe that the only way to change the amount of national debt is by way of
constitutional ammendment.

Furthmore I believe that the most effective way to impact such change is to hold those who spend
excess money personaly liable.>

I don't think it shall happen, only because these people are in office to spend money. Muskie had an interesting idea, he suggested a Sunset Law. Each program that costs taxpayer dollars should be reviewed every so many years for viability. That is, if it does not not work then dump it and save the expense.

There is a train of thought that supports pork barrel politics. If it was that easy to upseat this train of thought then Social Security would have had serious amendments years ago.

We all know that Social Security isn't going to be there for us when it's our time to rely on it. Politicians todays aren't exactly the framers of the United States Constitution. The Mental Capacity isn't in Washington, it's in the Boardrooms. Lawmakers today....unlike the Lawmakers of yesterday....only care about the short term.

I agree that there has to be an answer, but putting pressure on these pork politicians of today won't do much....I am afraid.

I think the answer is to replace all these people with people who support responsible fiscal policy. This, of course, will take a generation to accomplish.

But I am of the opinion that it is the only way to effect change that could mean something.
