It gets hotter, then it gets cooler. We are, after all, on a living planet. Island nations will be in trouble sooner or later as over the millennia the temperatures and climates vary. One of the garden places in the world used to be what is now the Sahara. Of course, no technology existed then to blame for that climate change! People move into earthquake zones and are amazed when there's an earthquake, into flood zones and drown, live under the shadows of volcanoes and are surprised when it erupts and cooks them alive ot snuffs out their lives with glowing ash. People have a short-range view of time. When looked at over millions of years it is easy to see the changes.
