I think we are seeing a lowering of our political discourse in which emotions run so out of control that it is not enough to skewer the opponent politically--his character must be attacked, even to the point of branding him a murderer . Thus, we see people who did not like FDR accusing him of murdering U.S. servicemen at Pearl Harbor; LBJ purportedly murdering thousands of young men in a war he knew was unwinnable because he was in thrall to the military-industrial complex, and perhaps having a hand in the murder of Martin Luther King (via the FBI); and Clinton accused of murdering Vince Foster, Ron Brown and many others. I may be the only one troubled by this trend, but I find it troubling indeed.

P.S. Oh, I almost forgot--didn't the Kennedys do away with an indiscreet Marilyn Monroe?
