Sam,

Apples and oranges.

The southern states sign on to the constitution and an understanding of the need for a Federal Govt.

The Nationalists and Communists were two competing power groups vying for power in the void left by the end of imperial rule by the Chinese emperor.

Since the country wasn't unified to begin with under one party or another before the Nationalists fled to Taiwan, I certainly don't see why the communists have a claim on Taiwan.

Certainly no more than N. Korea having a claim on S. Korea.

Or N. Vietnam having a claim on S. Vietnam.

Taiwan is no different.

Regards,

Ron
